Lane closures for Rideout Road to impact Redstone Arsenal traffic
It is being widened, work will happen July 24- August 31
REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (WAFF) - Heads up if you use Redstone Arsenal's Gate 9, the main gate on Rideout Road.
Construction will cause temporary lane changes, starting next week.
The right lane, northbound Rideout Road, from just south of the traffic light at the Gateway intersection to the ramp of I-565, will be intermittently closed.
“We’re continually growing. This area is seeing a lot of new businesses coming in. As part of that, there’s a need to improve the infrastructure. We want to maintain safe and constant traffic flow so we’re increasing the capacity of the roadway,” explained Kris Leatherman, Civil Engineer, Redstone Arsenal Garrison.
The lane will reopen daily before 3 pm to accommodate rush hour traffic in the afternoon.
The goal is to improve traffic flow on that heavily traveled road.
"The current project going on behind us is to widen Rideout Road northbound. What that's going to do is add an additional lane exiting the arsenal going toward 565," Leatherman said.
The work will run from July 24th to August 31st.
“As you travel into the Arsenal or leave the arsenal, just please be aware of the ever changing conditions, follow all of the safety signs and just pay attention so we can avoid any unnecessary accidents and backups. The safety of our workforce is the number one priority,” Leatherman added.
