ARDMORE, AL (WAFF) - The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has released more information following a third arrest in the murder of 72-year-old Dianne Ballard.
Ballard was found dead of a gunshot wound in a home on Elkwood Section Road in Ardmore early Tuesday.
Kahlib Holden, 18, Adrian Lopez, 18, and Quintin Courtney, 20, all of Madison County, are each charged with capital murder and first-degree robbery. All three are being held in the Madison County Jail.
According to the sheriff’s office, leads developed through the follow-up investigation show that the three suspects went to the house for a drug transaction. Investigators say there was an altercation between the three and another person in the house, and shots were fired. Ballard was in the home and was struck by a bullet.
“The quick arrests of these three men is due to the exhaustive work of Deputies from all divisions of the agency. Our Patrol, Investigations and Narcotics Divisions all worked tirelessly together to bring the men responsible to justice. Our partners with the US Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force also played a valuable role in the investigation. This crime is another example of the negative effects of illegal drugs in the community. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work hard to try and combat illegal drugs and reduce the crimes associated with them," Madison County Sheriff Kevin Turner said in a new release.
The investigation is still ongoing.
