HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Tuesday night was a homecoming for Alabama’s queen bee.
Newly-crowned national spelling bee co-champion Erin Howard touched down at Huntsville International Airport Tuesday night. She was greeted with hugs and cheers from the waiting crowd, along with an instrumental welcome.
The 14-year-old is one of the eight Scripps National Spelling Bee co-champions. She’s the first student from Huntsville to win the national bee, and only the second winner from the state of Alabama.
Earlier in the day, Erin and the other seven co-champions got to ring the morning bell at Nasdaq MarketSite in New York.
