MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAFF) - Brooks won its first state championship Thursday evening.
Lions junior pitcher Carson Villalta threw a complete game to help lead Brooks to a 6-4 win over Sipsey Valley in game two of the AHSAA class 4A state championship.
Villalta allowed six hits, four runs, walked one and struck out eight in the championship clinching game. That’s all while having to wait through three lightning delays that made the contest a three-hour, 39-minute fight to the finish.
“We talked in the start of the year we wanted to be different,” Brooks head coach Jacob Fowler said after the game. "We’ve been here before. We’ve won four red maps. This group wanted to be different they did everything we asked. They have made history at Brooks High School. I don’t think they understand the depth.”
The Brooks athletics programs have had a great week. The Lions golf team won a state golf title as well.
