ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - A lot of youngsters in elementary school make some type of craft for Mother’s Day. But that usually doesn’t last into high school years. However, one football team in north Alabama made something very special for their moms in their weekly “Manly Monday.”
Athens High School’s assistant football coach, Steve Carter, has gone viral with his “Manly Monday” lessons. It’s time he sets aside from football each week to be almost like a father figure to his team and really help those young men grow. He teaches the students manly lessons each week outside of football practice, like how to change a tire, check their fluids, tie a tie, practice firm handshakes.
These life skill lessons from the defensive line coach has caught national attention.
Carter wanted to do something special for Mother’s Day. Carter is known to be a handyman and jack of all trades, so he taught them how to make jewelry for their moms.
