HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The Matrix All Stars Cheerleading group is heading to Orlando to compete at the D2 Summit. The Summit is held once a year for elite All Star Cheerleading teams and is invitation only.
“Leading up to the Summit, it’s very hard,” said Matrix coach Hunter Jones. “You’re in the gym, two three hours at a time, running the routine nonstop. That’s running, lifting, and everything. So It’s a full body sport.”
These young men and women have to compete to reach this prestigious year end event. One-hundred and eighty teams receive paid bids throughout the United States.
The Matrix Gym has received an unheard of four paid bids on their own to this year’s event.
“Considering that the odds are stacked against them, as a small gym, with less than 100 athletes, even less than that. But there are so many great programs around,” said All Star cheerleader Sarah Huskey. “But having proven with getting four paid bids to some of the biggest competitions around, it just shows how great our program is, and I’m super excited.”
The All Star team will compete Saturday and Sunday in Orlando, Florida at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.
