Boaz police rescue disabled person from fire; man charged with arson

BOAZ, AL (WAFF) - A man is behind bars after police say he set fire to a home with a disabled resident.

Police say they responded to a call on Sunview Place just before midnight Monday.

Police say they were told that people were still inside the home.

Officers immediately pulled the disabled resident on oxygen out of the home when they arrived on the scene.

Police say Kenneth Barksdale set fire to the home after an argument that had been ongoing throughout the day.

According to authorities, Barksdale fled the scene on foot after setting the fire, but returned around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Barksdale was taken into custody and transported to the Boaz City Jail.

Barksdale has been charged with first-degree arson and three counts of domestic violence.

No bond has been set at this time.
