WOODVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The train track on County Road 8 that was closed after a derailment Monday morning is now clear.
It took dozens of crews to remove all 26 cars that were derailed and spilled thousands of pounds of coal. After it was done, Norfolk Southern resumed rail operations Tuesday afternoon.
No one was injured in Monday’s derailment, but there was a hefty overnight cleanup effort.
besides the train cars, much of the track was also damaged. Crews replaced those sections with ready-made track.
A man who lives in the area, Doug Eby, said the accident took out between 50 and 80 trees on his property. This was the only property damage in the derailment.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
Full cleanup will take several days.
