Benefits of doing Yoga

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - With summer around the corner, many people maybe looking to get into shape or boost their exercise routine.

A unique way to get active and healthy is yoga.

Maria Brito is a yoga instructor in Huntsville and tells WAFF 48 that there are several health benefits from participating in the exercise.

“It’s actually getting into your organs and squeezing all those toxins out of your body,” said Brito.

Brito says that yoga is about trying to find balance in your life, especially if you have multiple activities you’re having to juggle. She adds that it’s a good way to relax and get good energy flowing through your body.

Brito teaches yoga classes across Huntsville. Two Saturdays a month, Brito teaches classes at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens. “Here at the Botanical Gardens, I teach more of a slow, calming flow, stretch it out and get ready for the weekend," said Brito.

Classes at the Botanical Gardens are $10 for members and $12 for non-members.

Brito also teaches classes on Sundays at the Casual Pint at the Village of Providence. “That’s a wonderful time to just start your Sunday and get into a good vibe for the week,” said Brito. The class is $12 and includes one beer or wine after the class is finished.

All you need is a yoga mat. If you don’t have one, Brito has some you can borrow.

Brito shares that she enjoys spreading her love of yoga to the community.

“I always get that ‘I’m not flexible enough!’ Well, that’s why you do yoga. You come to get flexible. So just come try it out, give it a try,” said Brito.
