ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - Some high school football teams go heavy in the weight room during the off-season. A lot of conditioning and workouts are needed to prepare for Fall Camp. But one north Alabama high school coach’s teaching’s go beyond the football field. And those lessons are getting some national acclaim.
Mondays are called “Manly Mondays” at Athens High School. The football team has their workouts then learn some real world lessons from football assistant coach Steve Carter.
Carter has taught the team many real-life lessons, including how to check a car’s oil and transmission fluid, tying a tie, even some plumbing tips.
This week’s “Manly Monday” focused on teaching the teens how to change a tire. The video took off on social media. It’s been viewed more than 3.79 million times and garnered more than 10,000 retweets. It even caught the attention of USA Today.
