(WAFF) -Events are scheduled for noon Thursday in Lauderdale and Colbert counties in conjunction with the annual National Day of Prayer, according to our news partners.
Ministers from numerous churches will speak during the events, which are at Wilson Park in Florence and the Colbert County Courthouse in Tuscumbia.
In the event of rain, the programs will be at First Baptist Church, Florence, and First Methodist Church, Tuscumbia. All programs are open to the public.
"Last year, it is estimated that more than 510 million people around the globe participated in a local gathering or were impacted by live-stream video, radio or social media related to National Day of Prayer," said the Rev. Scott Barber, of Redeemer Church of The Shoals, who is an organizer for the event.
Barber said there were more than 50,000 observances nationwide last year and 120 radio stations broadcasting it. WFIX, 91.3 FM, will broadcast the Florence event live locally.
Ministers will pray for government, military, media, family, church, education and business communities, Barber said.
