DA drops charges in Huntsville capital murder case
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The Madison County district attorney’s office has filed a motion to drop the capital murder case against Demorris Lauderdale.
Lauderdale was arrested in Georgia earlier this month after Huntsville police identified him as the suspect in a deadly shooting at Brixworth at Bridge Street on March 20. 19-year-old Austin Rich was killed in the shooting.
Lauderdale has been held without bond on a capital murder charge.
Lauderdale’s attorney, Gregory Varner, filed a motion this week providing evidence that Lauderdale’s was not in Huntsville at the time of the shooting. This evidence included a gas station receipt, surveillance images out of Georgia, and a school check-in log around the time of the shooting.
Madison County District Attorney Robert Broussard filed a motion of nolle prosse on Friday.
