Suspect takes plea deal in 2018 Sheffield shooting death

COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A Florence man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of a Haleyville man last year.
Chance Boddie Thompson, 36, pleaded guilty to shooting and killing 26-year-old Chad Edwin Gardner on Jan. 7, 2018.
The plea calls for a 20-year sentence. Thompson must serve three years of those years in prison.
The shooting happened in Sheffield. Investigators said Thompson and Gardner got into a confrontation over custody of Gardner’s children. Thompson was dating the children’s mother.
