Social media posts lead to New Market theft arrest

NEW MARKET, AL (WAFF) - A flurry of posts on social media led Madison County deputies to a theft arrest on Friday morning.

According to sheriff’s department spokesman Lt. Donny Shaw, 51-year-old Keith Acton was arrested at the Mapco on Highway 72 and Moore’s Mill Road and charged with fourth-degree theft of property. Shaw says someone recognized Acton and his vehicle from posts on social media of a recent burglary at a business on Winchester Road in New Market.

Shaw says the theft happened at 5500 Winchester Rd., which is listed as Kayla Leanne’s Photography studio.

A search of social media turned up several complaints about recent business and home thefts in the area, including a video posted by the owner of that photography studio showing what she claims to be a theft from her business on April 13. Shaw confirms that video is part of the ongoing investigation.

That business owner also claims a boutique just a few yards away was also victimized recently.
