Remembering Ms. Connie, beloved figure at Huntsville restaurant

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - If you’ve been to Stanlieo’s Sub Villa on Governors Drive in Huntsville, you know Ms. Connie. She was the lead associate there on and off for more than 30 years, her warm personality noticed by everyone who walked through the door.

"She has always been kind to every person I know. I've never seen her not be kind, and giving and caring and thoughtful. It's not an act. It's who she was," said Connie Ward, Stanlieo's owner.

The staff already misses Connie Jones. She passed away last week and this weekend, she's being laid to rest.

Ms. Connie would always come out from behind the grill and the counter to interact with customers.

"They would send her pictures of their children and come in here and call her Momma or Auntie. There would be people who wouldn't see her but once a year, but she would come out and greet them like long lost family," Ward said. "She loved her customers. She loved her children and of course, her family. But she always treated the people she worked with like family."

She was hard working and would never stay in a bad mood, Ward says.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of a wonderful person. Ms. Connie, AKA momma, auntie passed away last night. We...

As a tribute to Ms. Connie, Stanlieo's is looking at adding a permanent item to their menu- a sandwich she created.

It’s an open-faced sub with cheese, sauce and pepperoni. She wanted to call it the Torpedo.

"We've got to get that done. We've got to get that taken care of," Ward stated.

And Ms. Connie always wanted Stanlieo's to be in one of the parades in Huntsville because she never missed a parade. They were her favorite.

"I will talk to her daughter. Whatever her family wants to do, we'll do because I think that will be the best tribute to be in a parade and her family be part of it too," Ward said.

Ms. Connie's uplifting spirit will forever fill Stanlieo's.

"Nobody's going to fill Connie's Shoes. She put the customers first. They loved her and she loved them," Ward added.
