Appeals court denies Huntsville police officer’s immunity bid in murder case

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has turned down Huntsville police officer William Darby’s immunity petition.

Darby filed a motion the the appeals court to reverse the Madison County Circuit Court’s denial of immunity in his murder case.

Darby is accused of murder after shooting and killing a suicidal man who refused to drop his gun in April 2018.

Darby claimed it was self-defense.

Judge Donna Pate denied Darby immunity in April 2019.
