FALKVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Falkville Police Chief Chris Free has been placed on paid administrative leave of absence with full pay and benefits.
Mayor Ken Winkles confirms Free was placed on leave by the Falkville Town Council on Monday night.
Winkles confirms he was placed on leave due to an ongoing FBI investigation but not say what the investigation is for.
He said a motion passed unanimously to put Free on leave.
“For the town’s protection and that of Chief Free, as well as public confidence pending the present investigation, the council deemed it best to take this action,” Larry W. Madison, Attorney at Law.
Madison went on to say that that Chief Free does not stand accused of any wrongdoing by the council and this step is not a disciplinary measure.
“Neither town officials or the undersigned are at liberty to discuss the nature of the pending investigation,” said Madison.
