DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - A man wanted in a capital murder investigation turned himself in on Thursday morning.
Lashawn Kentrell Caudle was wanted on a capital murder warrant that stemmed from a shooting on Dec. 21. He is being held in the Morgan County Jail without bond.
At about 1 p.m. Dec. 21, Morgan County 911 received a call of a shooting in the area of Parkway Place Apartments in Decatur. This is located at 2115 Central Parkway SW.
At around the same time, officers with the Decatur Police Department were dispatched to the area of Central Parkway and Beltline Road SW for a male who was passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found Anthony Lewis sitting in the driver’s seat of a 2007 Lincoln MKX. He was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg.
Lewis was transported to Decatur Morgan Hospital for treatment and was immediately taken into emergency surgery. Police said he died of his injuries the next morning.
During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Caudle as the shooter. Shortly after, Morgan County Circuit Judge Jennifer Howell issued a capital murder warrant for Caudle’s arrest.
Police said Caudle and Lewis were acquaintances, and this was not a random act.
