ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - Athens police arrested a man Tuesday afternoon for allegedly exposing himself to passers-by in a parking lot in the 200 block of U.S. 31 South.

Police say that on two separate occasions Monday Monday evening, shoppers walking through the parking lot noticed a man sitting in a parked vehicle with his pants down. Officer said both witnesses saw him “behaving in a manner contrary to state law and notified police.”

The man was able to drive away before officers arrived, but investigators identified him as 60 year-old Jeffery Crawford, an Athens resident. He was questioned then charged with two counts of indecent exposure, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to Alabama statute 13A-6-68, “A person commits the crime of indecent exposure if, with intent to arouse or gratify sexual desire of himself or of any person other than his spouse, he exposes his genitals under circumstances in which he knows his conduct is likely to cause affront or alarm in any public place."
