MUSCLE SHOALS, AL (WAFF) - Muscle Shoals police have arrested a high school student over the investigation into a threatening electronic message.

The incident occurred Thursday morning at Muscle Shoals Career Academy. The threat was reported by a school resource officer. The school was placed on lockdown.

Police say the message contained a meme that had recently been circulating on social media with the message “Columbine school shooters on the way.” The message also contained a photo of two males armed with weapons.

The Muscle Shoals Police Department worked with school administrators to find the sender. They identified him as 18-year-old Carson Nash.

Police say Nash sent the message from his iPhone via AirDrop. Investigators said the phone had been electronically altered to appear as being delivered from an iPhone belonging to a Muscle Shoals City Schools faculty member. The message was traced back to his personal phone by the IP address.

“The Muscle Shoals Police Department strongly encourages parents to speak with their children concerning appropriate use of electronic communication and the consequences of transmitting threatening messages,” the department stated in a news release.
