HAZEL GREEN, AL (WAFF) - Several Madison County volunteer fire departments responded to a van fire outside a garage in Hazel Green Monday night. Another pickup truck and parts of the garage were also burned.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Dudley Circle.
“When you lose all you got...it’s kind of hard.”
Robin Locke had just gotten out of the car before it caught fire. He says he has driven the van for five years with no problems.
“It seems like bad luck’s following me," Locked said. “My clothes, my shoes, doctors reports, my medicine - heart medicine, leg medicine - just everything I owned.”
While trying to recover his things before they were caught in the blaze, Locke suffered minor burns on his hand. HEMSI treated him on scene.
Hazel Green, Moores Mill, and New Market volunteer fire departments responded.
Officials with the Hazel Green Volunteer Fire Department told WAFF 48 News they would be working to figure out how they can help him. They will contact the American Red Cross tomorrow. If you wish to lend a helping hand, contact that fire department.
No word yet on the official cause.
