DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - We’re one step closer to a new soccer facility at Point Mallard Park in Decatur.

The city council voted to accept a $300,000 grant from the Alabama Tourism Department.

Besides the grant, the Kiwanis Club of Decatur is putting up $125,00 of the $425,000 project.

The city is planning to build a new two-story, 3,500 square foot soccer complex at the Spirit of America Field.

Officials say they hope to start construction in November.
