HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Are you ready for the watermelon madness? What better way to wind down the summer?

The 38th annual watermelon festival starts Friday in Russellville. Around 40,000 people are expected to come out. There is plenty to do for all ages.

From arts and crafts, to games, music, plenty of carnival food, and of course watermelon! Not to mention prizes for best tasting melon, largest, best dressed and most unusual.

All the festivities kick off at 6 p.m. If it rains, everything moves into the Roxy Theater on Jackson Avenue.
