ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - How about a local team grinding for their goals after dark? Athens High School held a midnight practice on April 9 and the community was all about it.
The guys seemed pretty pumped up to be out there in cooler weather and skip that awful 3:30 p.m. heat. And their fans came out too and even tailgated at their midnight practice.
You can already tell Athens is ready to get this football season rolling. So why practice at midnight?
“Midnight madness. It’s the first day you can be in full pads. So here we are. And being the first day in full pads we want to hit someone as early as we can. So here we are,” said coach Cody Gross.
You know those guys were waiting all year long to throw those pads on.
The Golden Eagles finished their 2017 season 5-6 overall losing to Clay-Chalkville in the first round of playoffs.
Athens will open their season on Aug. 31 against Gardendale.
