HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A Valley man charged in connection with the attack of a gymnastics instructor is now accused in the murder of a Huntsville man.

Twenty-eight-year-old Tavares Fletcher is now charged with capital murder.

He's accused of killing Jerry Richard in August of 2008.

For six long months, the gunman who brutally murdered Jerry Richard on August 8, 2008 was unknown to his grieving widow.

Richard and two coworkers were doing contract work at the Regions Bank on South Memorial Parkway around midnight when they were approached by an armed robber.

Police say the man shot Richard to death, after he had nothing to give.

"It's been very hard. Knowing that the guy was out there, he got to spend Christmas, all the holidays with his family. If he has one," Karen Richard said.

Now Richard can rest a little easier. Police say the man responsible for her husband's murder is already behind bars.

Tavares Fletcher is being held in connection with the January 27th attempted murder and robbery of Margaret Hall, a Huntsville gymnastics teacher.

Now investigators have linked him to Jerry Richard's murder.

"It feels great. Knowing that somebody is going to pay for this. Finally. And it has been a long time coming," Karen Richard said.

For six long months, the only thing that was getting Karen Richard out of bed was the support of a homicide survivors group.

Now she's driven by her resolve to see that the man police say murdered her husband is punished.

WAFF 48 News spoke with Margaret Hall Tuesday evening. She declined to comment specifically on the case, but says she is in good spirits and back at work.
