HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Two arrests were made and $50,000 worth of cocaine recovered in an afternoon drug bust off Interstate 565.
The incident began on Wall-Triana Boulevard south of I-565 and north of Dunlop Blvd about 1 p.m. The action lasted only seconds before three vehicles -- two belonging to law enforcement -- drove off the side of the road.
At the scene a patrol car rested on the side of a white Acura and another vehicle. Members of the Madison County Sheriff's Department's Vice Narcotics Unit, along with Madison Police's Vice Narcotics Unit, made two arrests on the scene.
Porter Batts and Timothy Farris were arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine. Two kilos of the drug were recovered on the scene.
Agents with the vice narcotics units said a box maneuver was used on the vehicle to stop further pursuit.
"When they turned on their blue lights and attempted to stop him, he rammed one of our marked cars, then bounced back and hit one of our undercover cars, at which time they were locked up and pushed him off into the ditch," said Michael Salomonski with the Madison County Sheriff's Vice Narcotics Unit.
Nobody was injured in the bust. Both Farris and Batts are in jail on $1.5 million bond.
