Monitor: Parched conditions expand across Ala.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The U.S. Drought Monitor Survey says drought conditions are getting worse in Alabama and the Southeast.

The survey, released Thursday, shows 79 percent of the state is under some stage of drought - a 6 percent increase from last week.

There is good news - regions covered by D-1 and D-2 or severe conditions were relatively the same covering about 22 percent of the state and centered in northeast Alabama.

According to the Monitor - D-4 or exceptional dry conditions in Southeastern states grew more than 5 percent.
