MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Southern Center for Human Rights has asked a Montgomery judge to enforce his ruling ordering the release of records from an Alabama Department of Corrections investigation into an inmate's death.
Circuit Judge Eugene Reese issued an Oct. 6 decision saying corrections officials should immediately release its records in Farron Barksdale's death.
But prison Commissioner Richard Allen said last week that the department is disputing the ruling and lawyers asked Reese not to allow any release of records until the case is decided on appeal.
The Atlanta-based law center asked Reese to let his order stand Monday and is seeking records in life-threatening assaults on six inmates.
Barksdale was sentenced to life in prison for killing two Athens police officers in January 2004.
