Boaz man sued over movie deal

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Actor David Keith has filed a federal lawsuit in Knoxville, claiming an Alabama man backed out of a deal to finance a movie about country singer Keith Whitley.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel reported the suit filed Wednesday claims the Knoxville-born actor had worked on the project for a year when David Lee of Boaz, Ala., pulled out after having promised $10 million in production funding.

The suit claims breach of contract by Lee and Alatrade Foods LLC. Whitley died of alcohol poisoning in Nashville in 1989 at the age of 33.

He was from Sandy Hook, Ky., and had an early bluegrass career before moving to country music.

Lee's attorney, Joe Leak, said Wednesday afternoon he had not yet seen the lawsuit and reserved comment.
