Long lines at Ala. polling sites

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Polling places across Alabama opened to long lines on election day, and the state appears on its way to setting a record turnout.

Secretary of State Beth Chapman visited polling places in Montgomery and Shelby counties that had hundreds of people in line when the doors opened at 7 a.m.

She said they were typical of what was happening statewide.

Chapman says there have been no early reports of problems at the polls, despite the long lines.

Chapman is predicting Alabama will break its old turnout record of 76 percent set in the 1992 presidential race.
