MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Bob Riley's bid for an emergency order from the Alabama Supreme Court in a dispute over his appointment of four Alabama A&M University trustees has been denied.
In its 5-1 decision released Monday, the high court rejected Riley's request to block Montgomery County Circuit Judge William Shashy's Sept. 19 order in a lawsuit challenging the appointments.
Shashy disqualified Riley's board appointments after they had been rejected by the state Senate's Confirmations Committee in May.
Riley sought to block Shashy's order so the four trustees could participate in board meetings.
Riley now must wait for a high court ruling that's expected in 30 to 60 days.
