Haleyville schools ran political ad on Web site

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Haleyville city school system has posted an item on its official Web site that urged support for Republican State Board of Education candidate Gary Warren.

The item was taken down Thursday as The Associated Press made calls inquiring about it.

The item near the top of the Web site's main page asked readers to be sure to vote for Warren, who is director of the career technical school at Haleyville High School.

Haleyville schools Superintendent Clint Baggett said he ordered the item removed when he heard about it Thursday.

The executive director of the Alabama Ethics Commission, Jim Sumner, says it would be a violation of the state ethics law for official state property to be used to promote a candidate for public office.

Warren did not immediately return calls or an e-mail Thursday seeking comment.
