SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (AP) - An open government advocate has filed a lawsuit claiming that the Jackson County Commission failed to post a public notice for an Oct. 14 meeting in accordance with the Alabama Open Meetings Law.
Garry Morgan, a retired Army sergeant from Scottsboro, attends most commission and council meetings there.
In a lawsuit filed last week, he asks the commission to comply with the law and to give a five-day notice when it changes a meeting time.
He also asks the commission to hold a special meeting to reaffirm the actions it took at the Oct. 14 meeting and to give five-day notice of that meeting.
A judge said in an order Friday that he will set a hearing after the commission has a chance to respond to the complaint.
County attorney John Porter of Scottsboro said he can't comment on pending litigation.
