UNA hosts public forum on national economy

The University of North Alabama College of Business and MBA Club are hosting a public forum next week.

They will discuss the nation's current financial crisis and the recent rescue package passed by Congress.

The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 6 p.m. October 14 in the Wesleyan Hall auditorium.

Panelists include Dr. Alex Aguado, assistant professor of political science; Dr. Brett King, professor of finance; Dr. Keith Malone, assistant professor of economics; and Macke Mauldin, president of Bank Independent and Birmingham branch director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.

The forum will be moderated by Dr. Doug Barrett, chair of the UNA Department of Economics and Finance.

The panel discussion will include a question-and-answer session.

"The nation's economy is at a historical point," said Dr. Kerry Gatlin, dean of the College of Business. We are facing a worldwide financial crisis, and confidence in our financial system has been shaken. Congress has approved close to a $1 trillion recovery package that has so far not been well received by the market. This panel has been put together to discuss the rescue package from several different perspectives. The panel hopes to engage the audience in a lively and informative non-partisan discussion."
