MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama Power Co. is asking for another rate hike on top of higher charges for fuel costs.
The company has asked the Public Service Commission to raise the basic monthly charge for being connected to Alabama Power.
The company's written proposal would increase the charge from $8.91 to $15 for residential customers.
Other types of customers would also see an increase.
Alabama Power also wants to levy a charge for paying bills late.
It would be 1.5 percent of the bill, with a minimum of $2.
The PSC is already scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday to vote on the electric utility's request for higher rates to cover rising fuel costs.
It has proposed an increase of slightly more than 8 percent for residential customers.
