MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - State agriculture officials say thieves are targeting Alabama farms for copper and cattle.
Alabama AG Commissioner Ron Sparks and Macon County D.A. E Paul Jones announced two arrests Wednesday.
Two men face burglary charges for a series of break-ins at hunting lodges in Macon County.
Sparks also said investigators are close to finding those responsible for stealing copper from farm irrigation systems.
Authorities said thousands of feet of copper tubing have been stolen in the past six months.
Cattle thefts are also a concern.
Federal and state agencies are working to identify suspects wanted for a rash of cattle thefts in at least 12 rural counties.
