(HUNTSVILLE) - The Steve Hammond trade to San Francisco has finally had some fallout reaching down to Huntsville.
The Milwaukee Brewers have promoted southpaw starter Troy Cate to Nashville to fill the Sounds' roster spot. Cate was 3-0 with a 2.36 ERA in four starts for Huntsville.
To fill Cate's spot on the roster, the Stars will get right-handed pitcher Alexandre Periard from Class A-Brevard County (Fla. St.).
Hammond, who was winless in four starts for Nashville, was traded to the Giants, Sunday, with Manatee outfielder Darren Ford for 2nd baseman Ray Durham.
The Quebec-born Periard was a 16th-round pick by the Brewers in the 2003 June draft. He leaves behind a 9-6 record and 3.51 ERA in 18 starts with the Manatees. Periard was a winner in four of his last five starts, including a 7-inning 4-hit scoreless performance against Sarasota and an 8-inning, 7-hit game against Fort Myers.
He was 5-2 with a 2.16 ERA in 9 appearances with Brevard over the past two months.
The Brewers also placed outfielder Michael Brantley, who re-injured his ankle in Sunday's game with Tennessee, on the disabled list, and released utilityman Ryan Crew, who was on the suspended list.
The Stars roster currently stands at 23, one shy of full capacity.
