Former Vipers Coach, QB, Lead Arizona Rattlers to AFL Playoffs

(PHOENIX, Arizona) - Former Tennessee Valley Vipers quarterback Matt Sauk, led by former Vipers coach Kevin Guy, are taking the Arizona Rattlers into the first round of the Arena Football Playoffs tonight.

The Rattlers, who lost their final two games of the regular season, both at home, still have the chance to win at home against the Grand Rapids Rampage, the last team they actually defeated at home (US Airways Center) five weeks ago.

Guy's quarterback, Matt Sauk, is the 3rd starting quarterback he has used since the start of the season. Sauk's immediate predecessor, Jeff Smoker, was injured in that game after leading the Rattlers to a last-second win, 52-48, over Grand Rapids on May 24.

Smoker is now in a reserve role after completing 23-of-37 passes for 272 yards. Sauk has started ever since, leading the Rattlers (8-7) to four straight wins before a disappointing home loss to Colorado, in which he turned the ball over three times.

With a win over Grand Rapids, Arizona would travel to San Jose for the second round on July 5.

The Rattlers' postseason games will be broadcast live on the internet.
