(RICHMOND) - The Atlanta Braves signed shortstop Enrique Cruz to a minor league contract, Thursday, and assigned the former Huntsville Stars infielder to Class AAA-Richmond (IL).
Cruz joined the Braves in Richmond, where he started at 3rd base and went 0-for-3.
Cruz was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the Rule V draft in December 2002 and played in 35 games for the 2004 Stars, hitting .188. With Huntsville the following year, he hit .300 with 14 home runs and drove in a team-leading 60 runs.
Last year, he drove in 62 runs and hit .267 for the Chattanooga Lookouts and made one appearance in the big leagues for the Cincinnati Reds. He was released at the end of the season.
