Brae Wright and Four Home Runs Put Stars Back on Top

(MOBILE) - Brae Wright tossed eight scoreless innings, allowed just five hits, recorded a dozen ground ball outs in his second straight quality outing and got the backing of four home runs, as Huntsville blanked the Mobile Bay Bears, 8-0, in the 4th of a 5-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium.

The Stars (33-21) retake a hold on first place in the Northern division of the Southern League after the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx fell to Mississippi, 7-2.

Wright held Mobile to six hits as Alcides Escobar, Angel Salome, and Mat Gamel supplied most of the offense for the Stars.

Escobar, who went 4-for-4 in the game, drove in his only run with a sacrifice fly in the 3rd that scored Mike Bell, who was hit by a pitch from starter Hector Ambriz to lead off the 3rd inning. Bell reached third on Michael Brantley's single. Following Escobar's sacrifice fly, Gamel singled Brantley over to third, setting up Salome's 3-run home run, his 5th of the season, which gave Wright a 4-0 cushion.

Chris Errecart's leadoff homer in the 4th gave the Stars a 5-0 lead.

Brantley, with one out in the 7th, hit a solo shot on to the roof of the clubhouse building for his 1st home run of the season and just the 3rd of his career to make it 6-0.

After an Escobar single, Gamel then delivered his second monstrous home run in as many nights, and his 12th of the season, to make it 8-0. That knocked Ambriz from the game. Ambriz has allowed a league-high 13 round-trippers, with nine of them coming at home.

David Johnson tossed a shutout 9th inning, giving up a two-out single to Cesar Nicolas before Cyle Hankerd flied out to end the game.

The series finishes Friday night with right-hander Donovan Hand pitted against BayBears' right-hander Matt Torra.
