(SOUTHAVEN, Miss.) - The struggling UAH Chargers will be making their 8th trip and 4th straight to the Gulf South Conference tournament later today when they face Arkansas Tech at the DeSoto Civic Center, south of Memphis.
The game is the first of two to be played. Following the 5:30 match-up between UAH (13-14, 6-6) and the WonderBoys (17-10, 8-6), Montevallo will play Arkansas (Monticello). If the Chargers can get by the first round, as they did last year, they will play #1 seed Harding tomorrow at 12:30.
In 2007, the Chargers beat Delta State in the first round of the tournament, only to be eliminated by Henderson State the next day, 70-59. The Chargers, who have lost 5 of their last 6, enter this year's tourney as the fourth seed.
The Chargers have made it to the finals only once in the eleven times they have gone. In 2003, they played for the GSC title against Henderson State, but came up short 54-39.
Overall, UAH is 4-7 all-time in GSC tournament competition. They are also 7-6 against the tournament field this season.The Chargers are 2-0 versus Arkansas Tech all-time.
