Jury to begin deliberations in Lackey trial

The jury is set to begin deliberations in the Andrew Lackey capital murder trial.

This story comes to us from our news partners at the News-Courier in Athens.

The case went to the jury late Friday afternoon and deliberations begin Monday morning.

Lackey is charged with the shooting death of 80-year-old Charles Newman in 2005 during an attempted robbery. Prosecutors say Newman's grandson told Lackey the man was a multimillionaire.

Lackey's attorneys allege the young man has a mild form of autism, even though they're not pleading mental disease or defect.
