(BIRMINGHAM) - The Russellville Golden Tigers are making the most of their second chance in the postseason.
The 2nd-ranked Tigers survived a 2nd half scare to beat 9th-ranked Eufaula, 79-69, setting up a 5A Boys Championship with Butler, Friday at 3 pm.
If anything, Russellville has been a survivor defending its 32-0 record during the playoffs. They lost to Wenonah, 67-60 in the NW Regional Semi-Finals, but were given new life when the Dragons had to forfeit their victory because they used an ineligible player.
Jermaine Bates dominated from the post. He hit 8-of-15 from the floor to lead Russellville with 24 points, 14 in the 1st half, allowing the Tigers to take a 41-34 lead. He also grabbed 7 rebounds.
Siran Winston added 19 points and 8 boards. Cory Trapp hit 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and finished with 13 points.
Herbert Brooks led Eufaula (25-8) with 21 points and 9 rebounds.
Eufaula cut into Russellville's lead in the 3rd quarter, taking a three-point lead with 2:35 left, but a three-pointer by Winston and a layup by Bates with 1:49 to go put Russellville ahead, 56-51, as they closed out the quarter with a seven-point lead.
Butler easily defeated Parker, 73-50, earlier in the afternoon.
