(From WAFF-48 Sports) - Results from the AHSAA basketball regionals in Jacksonville:
3A Girls NE Semi-Finals Crossville 63, Hokes Bluff 58 Courtney Thacker scored 20 points and Felicity Adkins hit a pair of three-pointers among her 9 points in the 3rd quarter as the Lions pulled off and upset against the 6th-ranked Hokes Bluff Eagles. Thacker added 11 rebounds to give her a double-double.
3A Girls NE Semi-Finals Glencoe 56, Geraldine 50 The Lady Yellow Jackets (20-10) took a one-point lead on a free throw by Mimi Williams with 4:14 left in the 3rd quarter and held that lead the rest of the way to eliminate the Geraldine Lady Bulldogs (17-13). Williams scored 18 points and Chelsi Matthews led with 19.
3A Boys NE Semi-Finals Crossville 76, Glencoe 65 The 2nd-ranked Lions (31-2) held a 40-28 haltime lead to advance to Saturday's finals. Mike Hedgepath led Crossville with 18 points and 12 rebounds. The Lions led by as many as 18 with 2:36 left in the game, but held on with 81% free-throw shooting in the 2nd half.
3A Boys NE Semi-Finals Madison Academy 79, Weaver 58 Dawa Muniru led four players in double figures as the Mustangs go on to Saturday's NE final vs. Crossville. Madison Academy coasted after a halftime lead of 42-19. The Mustangs shot 62% from the floor in the game, while their defense held the 10th-ranked Bearcats (24-7) to 29% shooting.
4A Girls NE Semi-Finals Boaz 52, Jacksonville 24 Caitlin Whitt scored 16 points and pulled in 10 rebounds to lead the Pirates (29-3) to an easy 28-point blowout of the Golden Eagles, which shot just 24.4% in the game. It was the 12th straight win for Boaz, who will face county rival DAR for the 4A NE Girls title.
4A Girls NE Semi-Finals DAR 52, Locust Fork 46 Autumn Largen paced DAR (27-5) with 14 points and Emily Jones added 11 as the Lady Patriots held off their opponent's two-point lead after three quarters. Erin Courington led the Lady Hornets with 16 points.
4A Boys NE Semi-Finals Cherokee County 64, Saks 45 Everything went the Warriors' way as they connectied on 52% of their shots, while holding Saks (21-7) to just 37%. Corey Blanchard led Cherokee County, which lost their shot at going to the regionals last year, with 18 points and three steals. The Warriors finished the 3rd quarter with a 48-35 lead as they eased to the NE finals.
4A Boys NE Semi-Finals Guntersville 63, Tarrant 58 Darius Steger led the 2nd-ranked Guntersville Wildcats with 26 points and 8 rebounds, stopping Tarrant's 16-game win streak. They finish the season 19-4. Trevor Diamond added 19 points and 8 rebounds.
