(WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.) - Edan Welch (inset) scored two powerplay goals and James Patterson recorded three assists as the Huntsville Havoc downed the Twin City Cyclones 5-1 Thursday night at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
Steve Briere picked up the victory for the Havoc, stopping 30 of 31 shots.
The Havoc allowed their only goal after they had taken a 4-0 lead in the 3rd period when Taylor Hustead scored on the power play at 11:14 of the period.
After Travis Kauffeldt staked Huntsville to a 1-0 lead at 9:37 of the opening period, the Havoc scored two power play goals in the 2nd, both assisted in part by Patterson, giving them a solid 3-0 lead. Welch scored at the 1:40 mark and Kyle Sheen scored at 15:48 following a hooking penalty on Hustead.
Welch solidified Huntsville's lead with his 2nd power play goal at 9:12 of the 3rd period. The Havoc went 3-for-10 on the power play for the night.
Beau McLaughlin capped the night with the final goal, 10 seconds from the final buzzer.
Travis Kauffeldt had a successful night with two assists. Jeff Valdes, Kyle Sheen, Tristan Fairbarn, and Tim Hockley also had assists.
The Havoc outshot Twin City, 37-31. Peter Vetri took the loss for the Cyclones.
The Havoc (15-20) are in last place in the SPHL, 5 points in back of Twin City and Fayetteville. They face Richmond on the road tonight.
