(MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.) - Behind a 3rd-period hat trick by sophomore Cale Tanaka, the UAH Chargers picked up their first CHA victory and first win on the road, 7-5, over Robert Morris.
The Chargers climbed back from a 2-0, 1st period deficit when Matt Sweazey scored at 15:44. A power play goal by Andrew Coburn evened the match less than two minutes later.
The Chargers and Colonials then traded goals in the 2nd, with Brennan Barker putting in an unassisted goal at 6:48. Scott Kobialko put Robert Morris ahead, 4-3, at 17:09, which is where the two teams stook into the 2nd intermission.
The Colonials stretched their margin to 5-3 at 5:16 of the final period before Tanaka went on his run.
With UAH on the penalty kill, Tanaka scored unassisted at 9:31, then scored again on the same penalty kill only 48 seconds later to tie the game at five.
The game remained tied until the final minute of regulation when Tanaka finished off the first hat trick since Joel Bresciani accomplished the feat on Nov. 11, 2002.
Junior Josh Murray rounded out the scoring for the Chargers with an empty-netter with one second remaining on the clock coming from Scott Kalinchuk and sophomore defenseman Brandon Roshko. Roshko had three assists on the night.
Shutting the Colonials down with 14 saves in the 3rd period, Blake MacNicol picked up the win in net with a 30-save performance while Christian Boucher, stopped 25 Charger shots for the loss.
The Chargers' seven goals marked the highest scoring output of the season. The two teams battle again, Saturday night at 6:35 p.m.
