(MILWAUKEE) - The Milwaukee Brewers have signed one-year deals with middle infielders Alcides Escobar and Hernan Iribarren and invited them to Spring Training.
Both Escobar and Iribarren helped the Huntsville Stars win the Northern Division of the Southern League for the 2nd straight year in 2007, and were added to the Brewers' 40-man roster earlier this offseason.
Escobar, the Stars' shortstop the second half of 2007, is currently ranked 2nd among the Brewers' top minor league prospects. He hit .283 in 63 games following the demotion of Yohannis Perez to Class A-Brevard County (Fla. St.) on June 18.
Iribarren, the Stars' 2007 2nd baseman has been playing several different positions this offseason in the Venezuelan Winter League. He led the Southern League in triples with 12, while hitting .307 and driving in 53.
Milwaukee's pitchers report to camp in Maryville, Arizona on February 6, followed a week later by the rest of the team.
