Auburn Women Improve to 14-6 After Win Over Alabama

(TUSCALOOSA) - DeWanna Bonner scored 27 points to lead Auburn's Lady Tigers over Alabama, 62-48, Sunday afternoon at Coleman Coliseum, a day after the men picked up their 1st SEC win against Auburn, 97-77.

The Lady Tigers improve to 14-6 overall and 2-3 in SEC play while the Tide fall to 8-12 on the year and 1-4 in the conference.

Down only three, 27-24, after a defensive battle in the 1st half, Alabama fell behind after a 16-2 Auburn run.

Backing up Bonner's performance, Sherell Hobbs scored 17 and Alli Smalley chipped in with 10. as Auburn shot just 38% from the floor, but they hit 43% from outside the perimeter and made it count from the stripe, hitting 17-of-19. Alabama made 10-of-16.

Alabama was led by Denmark native Camilla Blands, who scored 13.

Freshman Katie Hancock, fresh off ACL surgery, made her first start for the Tide and scored 6 ponts and chipped in two assists.

Auburn outrebounded Alabama 35-30.

The Tide will head to Mississippi for two-straight contests, beginning with a Thursday night matchup against Mississippi State on Jan. 31 at 7:00 p.m., then head to Ole Miss on Super Bowl Sunday.
