Fired Ole Miss Coach Orgeron Headed to the NFL

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Former Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron is joining the New Orleans Saints as defensive line coach.

Orgeron has no NFL experience, but Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said he came highly recommended.

Orgeron earned a reputation as one of the top defensive line coaches and top recruiters in the country while at USC, where he served from 1998-2004.

He has put many players in the NFL, particularly those he recruited for the Trojans. He recruited many of the players that led the Trojans to national championships in 2003 and 2004.

Orgeron, however, was 10-25 in three years at Ole Miss, including a 3-21 mark in the SEC.

The south Louisiana native will replace Marion Hobby, who left to become defensive coordinator at Duke earlier this month.
