(HUNTSVILLE) - The UAH Chargers opened the new year on the hardcourts by snapping a 2-game losing streak with a 71-57 win at Spragins Hall, Wednesday night.
The Chargers (5-6) hit 41% from the field and were 7-for-14 from the line, enabling them to take a 35-28 halftime lead.
The Oaks (8-4) came out firing in the 2nd half, though, erasing the Chargers' lead with 7 unanswered points to tie the game, but UAH came back with 9 of their own to go ahead, 44-35 with 12:47 left.
Kael Coleman's three-pointer gave the Chargers their first double-digit lead, 49-38, and added a pair of free throws to make it 51-38.
Though the Oaks whittled down the lead, UAH fought it back down the stretch to get the win.
For the game, UAH shot 44% from the field to Oakland City's 36%. Accuracy beyond the arc was the key, as UAH hit 10-of-24, while the Oaks were 9-for-33 from downtown.
Tyler Dunaway led the Chargers with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Hazel Green's Casey Stafford added 15. Cody Jones returned to action after missing several game with an ankle injury, and scored 9, while grabbing 4 rebounds.
The Chargers are home again tonight to play Rochester at 7 pm.
